Switzerland is not neutral when it hesitates. It ceases to be so. When a country founded on humanitarian law, mediation and diplomatic constancy begins to «study» power clubs designed to circumvent multilateralism, that is not prudence: it is renunciation. And this renunciation has a name, a function, and a clear political responsibility.
How Switzerland, cradle of humanitarian law, Host to over 40 international organisations, depositary of the Geneva Conventions, can she declare that she will «study» possible participation in an alleged «Peace Council» designed by Donald Trump ?
A private club, outside the UN, outside international law, outside multilateralism.
A closed circle functioning as a geopolitical country club, with an entry fee of one billion dollars, designed to bypassing the UN, to marginalise the non-aligned states and impose the law of the strongest.
⮕ Simply announcing that Switzerland is “studying” this option is a serious political error.
Neutrality transformed into an adjustment variable
Under the direction of’Ignazio Cassis, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs no longer defends neutrality:
it negotiates, the wrong, the puts into perspective, It's all about pressure and power.
Swiss neutrality is or a slogan, It is neither a moral stance nor a communication tool.
It is a strategic tool, recognised, respected, useful because it is credible and consistent.
But today, that credibility is crumbling.
«Ambiguity is not diplomacy: it's cowardice.»
This maxim has never been truer.
Switzerland doesn't have to please the “Godfather”
Switzerland has not to flatter a power, whatever it may be.
It has no need to show your credentials.
It has not “not to upset” one camp or another.
His strength has always been elsewhere:
- international law,
- multilateralism,
- credible mediation,
- independence of judgement.
By accepting even the idea of such a club, the FDFA undermines everything Switzerland stands for on the international stage.
Cassis embodies the failure of the office
The problem is no longer an isolated decision.
This is a trajectory.
Ignazio Cassis is the embodiment of diplomacy :
- aligned,
- inconsistent,
- obsessed with soft consensus,
- unable to accept Switzerland's uniqueness.
A head of the FDFA who does not understand - or no longer defends - neutrality no longer has a place in this position.
Conclusion: for Switzerland, he must resign
Swiss neutrality is non-negotiable.
Multilateralism is not optional.
International credibility cannot be sold off.
⮕ Ignazio Cassis must resign.
Out of respect for the institutions.
Out of respect for neutrality.
Out of respect for Switzerland.
Silence would be tantamount to complicity.
Inaction is capitulation.
We wouldn't entrust a vital diagnosis to a practitioner unable to recognise the symptoms; why entrust Swiss neutrality to him?
